Taking the time and energy to find the “and” has become my personal mission. However, I disagree with the final conclusion about how a person’s great strength can become a weakness. Here’s why: by it’s very definition, a strength cannot be a weakness, they are mutually exclusive. In the case of the manager that is the most expert and experience person in the room, the real weakness is the inability to communicate the ‘why’ to their colleagues. The strength is not the problem, its the lack of other strengths, skills, and knowledge in the area of communication and context that is getting in the way of their strength. So this poses another opportunity to apply the “and” thinking and find out the manager can be both an expert “and” share the context and why of their conclusions.

Can you please throw more light on the how part and on a day to day basic how it could be done.

Seems like most of the bosses fall into one extreme or the other. More on the “show ’em who’s boss” end, but a few on the “nice but not effective” end. I’ve always wished for a boss who is nice, but one who is nice and also effective would be great! I’m just going to use my initial on this one instead of my unusual first name – just in case any present or past bosses read it!
