The police had it towed away and the neighbor was convinced we had called the police/city code enforcement about it. We hadn’t and when the neighbor accused us of doing so, we told him that we didn’t call and let him know that we valued them as neighbors and would not do something like that without talking to him first. It was still awkward for a while afterward but as time went by our interactions returned to normal. As it turns out, it was the homeowner’s association who had called about it. In essence, I think it may be necessary to just continue interacting as you normally would and let some time go by. That’s what worked for us.
