Great article. We have a lot of officers who are promoted to SGT and have difficulty with the transition. Could we have permission to duplicate and distribute this posting within our organization (with appropriate references, of course)?

Interesting article, “Successfully Transitioning From Coworker to Boss.” I would be interested in an article on the opposite, where my supervisor title was taken away and I was transitioned into an individual contributor in the group I used to supervise. Thanks!

The bathroom monitor story needed to go a step further. Handwashing requires immediate intervention. Everyone should be empowered to speak up. It’s easier to give someone a gentle reminder of safe practice at the time rather than ask someone to be a “rat”. Supervisors need to be aware of how many fail to wash, not who. Supervisors need to be aware of repeated at risk behavior rather than single lapses.
